A headline in the Guardian this week read:
‘Prince Charles vetted laws that stop his tenants buying their homes’
Although interesting, it is not a huge surprise to anyone working in the world of lease extensions. You are entitled to extend your lease by 90 years MOST of the time. If your landlord is the Crown (and the Crown owns a lot of land and property) you do not have an automatic right to extend your lease. This seems quite unfair, that’s because it is. It’s not all bad news. Although the Crown is not obliged to grant a new lease, they usually do.
If you happen to live in a Crown property and have any questions, please do get in touch.
